I Know What You Did Last Summer

I am a Deaf Education major at Southern Miss, and while in Kenya this summer, I met a man who was deaf named Richard.

I had an opportunity to communicate with him through sign. It was an amazing opportunity to use what I have been studying and make a new friend.

Student Internships Programs

The State Department is looking for outstanding undergraduate or graduate students to participate in their student internship program during the summer of 2009. The internships are either paid or unpaid depending on the student’s financial need. Interns are placed either in Washington D.C. or in embassies around the world! Even unpaid interns receive free housing and in some cases the State Department will pay for travel.

The State Department’s goal is to find students from diverse backgrounds to represent our diverse nation. Diversity can be in the form of language skills, physical diversity, regional diversity, national origin diversity, and racial diversity -- almost anything, so start thinking about what is unique about you and your college experience. Students with proven language skills in any of the following languages are especially welcomed: Arabic, Chinese, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu. Candidates must be U.S. citizens. This is a wonderful opportunity for a unique experience and a great resume builder so please come by the National Scholarship Office to talk about applying.
