The History Department sponsors a History Writing Lab (HWL) which allows students taking any history class to get help writing history papers, studying for history exams, and/or doing historical research. The HWL is staffed by advanced graduate students who can assist at any stage of studying or writing: from generating ideas to polishing final drafts, and with any type of history writing project, from book reviews to research papers.
HWL consultants will help with your specific writing difficulties, such as research methods, organization, passive voice, thesis statements, etc. They are here to help at any stage of writing, from generating ideas to polishing final drafts, and with any type of history writing project, from book reviews to research papers.
Be aware, the HWL does not provide an editing service where the consultants only correct grammatical errors. The goal of every consultation is to help students become better writers; that process occurs gradually and only through the active participation of the student in consultation with the writing tutors. Students who need some help or guidance can call, email, or just stop by to make an appointment for a free, friendly consultation.
We look forward to working with you. To make an appointment, call us at 601-266-4086, email us at historywritinglab.usm@gmail.com, or stop by our office on the fourth floor of the Liberal Arts Building (Room 464).
