Westley (Lee) Follett is the author of Céli Dé in Ireland: Monastic Writing and Identity in the Early Middle Ages (2006), and has published or forthcoming articles in Eolas: The Journal of the American Society of Irish Medieval Studies, Journal of Celtic Studies, and Insignis Sophiae Arcator, an edited festschrift on medieval Latin studies. A medievalist by training, his primary research field is medieval religious history with emphases on monasticism, hagiography, liturgy and manuscript studies, and a geographical focus on Ireland.
Prior to coming to USM, Dr. Follett taught history at the University of Georgia and Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia. He held a post-doctoral scholarship in the School of Celtic Studies at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies where he worked on late medieval manuscripts in the Royal Irish Academy collection. He received his doctorate from the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto.
At USM Gulf Coast he teaches courses in classical, medieval and world history.
